Kathmandu, since 1994

Furniture that remembers the hands that made it.

Chaudhary Furniture Udhyog shapes seasoned sal and sheesham timber into pieces built to hold a household for decades, not seasons. Every joint is cut by hand in our own workshop.

How a piece gets made

Four stages, the same order every time, since the workshop opened.

  • 1

    Timber selection

Seasoned sal and sheesham logs are inspected for grain and moisture before cutting begins.

  • 2

    Hand joinery

Mortise-and-tenon joints are cut and fitted by hand — no particleboard, no metal brackets.

  • 3

    Sanding & oil finish

Surfaces are sanded through several grits, then sealed with a natural oil finish, by hand.

  • 4

    Quality check

Every piece is inspected for stability and finish before it leaves the workshop floor.

What Kathmandu households say

A few notes passed on by customers over the years.

We ordered a dining table for our new flat in Baneshwor. Four years on, the joints haven't loosened once — and the workshop still remembers our order when we called back for chairs.

New Baneshwor, Kathmandu

I asked for a writing desk sized to fit an awkward corner. They measured the room themselves before cutting a single board. It fits like it was always meant to be there.
